Visual Arts
All St. Louis Park Middle School students are required to take one visual arts course during their middle school years. Learn about the visual arts course offerings.
Grade 6
- Visual Arts
This course encompasses broad visual art experiences. It is designed to build knowledge of art and art history to create an awareness of visual arts within the world. Students will also examine various cultures and artists, and develop techniques for creating and understanding artworks. Students will experience a variety of art mediums which will include drawing, painting, weaving, and more.

Grade 7
- Visual Arts
In this class, students will explore a wide variety of art materials and techniques while creating 2-dimensional, 3-dimensional, and digital artworks. Students will experiment with drawing, painting, sculpture, mixed media, and digital design as they learn how artists turn ideas into finished works of art. With an emphasis on personal style, students will be encouraged to express their ideas, develop their skills, and think like artists while working both independently and collaboratively.

Art 7 is a hands-on, creative course where students explore materials like clay, paint, papier-mâché, and plaster while bringing their ideas to life in three dimensions. Students learn how to turn drawings and sketches into sculptures and ceramic works while experimenting with glazes, color mixing, and brush techniques. Students will explore art history, collaborate with classmates, and learn how artists brainstorm, create, and reflect using the art cycle. The course culminates in a 7th Grade Art Show, where students work together to design and showcase artwork for a real exhibition.

In this class, students will have the unique opportunity to capture the memories and spirit of our school community through the creation of the school yearbook. Students will have hands-on experience in photography, interviewing, storytelling, graphic design, and teamwork.
